What is your identity? A moderate, a liberal, a conservative, a blend, a humanitarian, an isolationist – so many labels. What are your beliefs? How do you function in U.S. society? What do you support? Are you open to other’s views? Are you open to new ideas? What do you do if encountering an uncomfortable and extremely questionable situation? Do you stand back or take action in some manner? Do you question the information given to the public? Do you stay in your own lane and not go out of this comfort zone? What is your role as an American?

These are all questions I ask myself.

As individuals our core interests are normally “self” and “my family.” In today’s society, this thought requires a wider net. Why? Because all the external events, both nationally and globally, impact your life and those that you care about. It may not seem immediate, or that doesn’t affect me, so why should I care. Maybe it’s obnoxious on my part to suggest that citizens should care about current events and how these decisions affect other people. Maybe it’s obnoxious to think that citizens should research what is being said beyond their news stations, hearsay and the Trump administration.

In today’s society, history that enabled citizens, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion or bank account, is being rewritten. The Trump Administration is systematically creating policies and executive orders to challenge and change history to suit their own story.

This is not a fairytale.

There was a time when women did not have the right to vote. There was a time when black people had to sit in the back of a bus and go in different doors from white people. There was a time when a woman had to use a coat hanger to have an abortion. There was a time when immigrants were welcome to this country so they could have opportunity. There was a time when Congress stood up for its citizens. There was a time when the Office of the President of the United States was honorable.
