Do you know what this is?

I keep hearing this term applied to any candidate running in the democratic lane. I also hear this term means you’re a communist. Is this true or is this just a spin to redefine the term to suit someone’s political position? Communism is a classless society where there is no ownership. The collective owns factories, buildings–there is no private property. Wealth is shared equally. Of course, communism has a different face for Putin and Xi Jinping. Their story is modified to suit their needs. Maybe they’re republications?
      According to Ms. Google, she says “a democratic socialist believes that both the economy and society should run democratically to meet public needs, not make profits for a few. They want to replace traditional capitalism with a system where major industries and services are publicly or worker-owned, while keeping a fully democratic government with free elections.” Look out Amazon and other large corporations if this were ever made possible.
      The official national platform of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) calls for defunding the police by reducing budgets annually toward zero, demilitarizing law enforcement, and investing instead in community care. In my opinion, this goes too far.
      Society needs a police presence to oversee crime and catch those bad guys. The weakness of the system is ICE, promoted and fueled with money by the Trump administration. It’s difficult to view the “so called” ICE police as anything but thugs and criminals themselves.
      Recent democratic candidates have publicly stated defunding the police and then backtalked it realizing this was political suicide. What a shame they would even make this statement. If any of them were in a questionable situation, they would want someone to provide protection. Not all police are the same. There are individuals who believe in upholding the law. It’s a shame all we see are the types displayed that murder, capture innocent people and throw many of tax-paying people into detention centers.
